The Thrive event was an engaging prevention event open to the entire student body at Lafayette College. Collaborating with LaFarm, a sustainability initiative, helped create a more holistic approach to wellness and safety on campus. LaFarm encompasses both a student-run farm as well as community garden plots. In working closely with LaFarm, and their student workers, to cultivate the plants we gave away, we developed investment for the event months before it occurred. Another student group, Eco Reps, was present the day of the event to facilitate activities and share environmentally friendly giveaways.
By hosting the event in a public space on campus, with interactive activities, Thrive provided students the chance to interact with peers, staff and faculty. The CDC noted this type of connection enhances health, reduces stress, and reduces risk of suicide. This inherently social event also promoted bonding over fun and joy, as well as informed participants of resources at the Counseling Center for times of need.
